Meet Virginia!

“What I like about the play of doshas is the principle that we’re all individuals, working and playing through our personal messes, moment by moment. AND yoga can meet us where we are…daily, minute by minute.”

Born and reared outside of Memphis, Tennessee, Virginia McKinnie considers herself to be an outgrowth of the “Southern magnolia voice.”  Her poems have appeared in journals and magazines, including Sage Woman, Mad Poets Review, The Pegasus Review, Watermarks, and Lucidity, and have received national awards and honors.

Virginia has an MA in Literature from the University of Warwick, England, is a graduate of the three-year program in Psychosynthesis, a spiritual psychology training, and is a graduate of Woman Wisdom.   For more than 10 years, Virginia studied the chakra system and received in-depth training with Anodea Judith, Ph.D. and is a Certified Chakra Coach with a fascination for focusing on the energy structures of the chakras, bio-energetic movement, and psychological and somatic chakra therapy.

This Master teacher is a wondrous Mama-Bear and Susan’s lifetime friend. She keeps it simple and real:

“Yoga and breath and writing and herbs and lots of open space to feel the Earth. That’s what I’ve been focusing on all my life in some form or another. And I want to share what I’ve learned. As far as letters go: RYT 200 and 500 (with Danielle Dulsky of Living Mandala Yoga AND The Himalayan Institute), Yin Yoga Teacher, Chakra Teacher, Poet, Space Holder, Spirit Guide, Wise Woman and lover of wet earth, warm winds, dashing water and brilliant fire. Come share my passions and claim your own joy.”

Virginia currently teaches at Raja Yoga in Philadelphia and co-leads ocean earth wind fire retreats at Old Field Point.
